Sault Area Hospital (SAH) has received the BD Canada Safety Recognition Award recognizing health-care institutions across Canada that are committed to providing a safer environment to their patients and staff through the use of BD Safety-Engineered Medical Systems (SEMS). BD Canada serves health-care institutions, life science researchers, clinical laboratories, industry and the general public with a wide array of safety-engineered medical devices, including syringes to protect healthcare workers against sharps injuries.
“We’re pleased to present Sault Area Hospital with a plaque and $500 to be used toward further safety education,” said Allison McKittrick, sales consultant for BD Medical. “BD applauds Sault Area Hospital’s leadership efforts in keeping its patients and employees safe by preventing heath care-associated infections and needle stick injuries.”
SAH is one of only 18 hospitals across Canada to receive the award. The hospital’s Product Evaluation and Standardization Committee (PESC), the Joint Health and Safety Committee and SAH Nurse Educators spearheaded the implementation of SEMS in 2005, far ahead of the actual legislation that was effective September 2008.
