EMR Every Step Conference: September 28th

OntarioMD’s EMR Every Step Conference in Toronto drew 800 attendees last year. This year’s conference will be held September 28th at the Toronto Congress Centre.

One-day conference helps physicians optimize use of EMR technology

Northern Ontario physicians and clinical staff interested in learning how to optimize the use of their Electronic Medical Record systems can take advantage of OntarioMD’s next EMR Easy Step Conference September 28th at the Toronto Congress Centre.

Introduced four years ago, the information-packed one-day gatherings have seen a steady increase in attendance as physicians recognize the impact of EMR use on practice efficiency and improved outcomes for patients.

Last year’s EMR Every Step Conference in Toronto drew 800 attendees.

“In addition to attracting new users, we see ever increasing numbers of repeat attendees whose use of EMR technology continues to mature,” said Sarah Hutchison, CEO of OntarioMD. “Physicians see great value in peer-led sessions about how high-performing physicians are using their EMRs to deliver care.”

The day begins with a plenary session featuring a keynote speaker and continues with a series of concurrent sessions on a variety of topics focusing on everything from EMR-facilitated chronic disease management to the use of external databases and applications such as Hospital Report Manager, eConsult and eNotification.

Physicians can also attend vendor workshops, consult with an OntarioMD peer leader and meet with an OntarioMD practice advisor for a one-on-one EMR Progress Assessment.

“When physicians need help with their EMR, they usually have to pay for it, so coming to our vendor sessions is essentially equivalent to getting free support,” said Katherine Tudor, OntarioMD’s director of communications and marketing. “Physicians find that very helpful.”

The EMR Every Step Conference is the only conference of its kind in Canada.

“There’s nothing else like it,” said Hutchison. “It’s quite exciting that it continues to grow year over year and that physicians continue to see value in it. The format is compelling because of the content, and the attendance of our peer leaders, practice advisors and vendors in one location.”

Physicians attending the conference also earn CMA credits.

OntarioMD also holds a second, smaller conference every spring elsewhere in the province. To date, these conferences have been held in Ottawa and London, but OntarioMD is also considering the possibility of selecting a Northern Ontario venue in the future, said Tudor.
